Sonja is a board-certified specialist in companion animal cardiology (ECVIM) and Professor at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. She graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover and completed a doctoral degree in veterinary pathology at the Justus Liebig University Giessen, specialist cardiology training at the University of Liverpool, and a PhD at the University of Helsinki. She has held academic appointments in small animal cardiology at the Universities in Liverpool and Bristol. She currently serves as Chair of the ECVIM Cardiology Specialty, Co–Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Veterinary Cardiology, and Research Chair in Feline Health, with research focused on feline cardiac remodeling and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
